I'm BACK!

Wow so I have officially been married to my darling, my sweetheart, my HUBBY for 2 weeks and 2 days.

And now I’m back at work. Ultimate bleakness.

Everyone has been asking “Sooooo, how wassss it?” and the first word that comes to mind is...WONDERFUL. WUNDERBAR!

According to my Mom the two words most used to describe our wedding were HAPPY and RELAXED. Which is exactly what we were going for so I am very happy. And relaxed. Hehe.

We still have a few weeks before the wonderful Steff has all of our photos ready, so in the meantime I thought I would do a little series called “Our wedding” about how my inspiration came to life...

68 posts = one wedding

Today has arrived. Just like every other day of the year, the sun has come up, the birds are catching up on birdie gossip and the Earth is still the third rock from the sun.

But today is different for two little ants in the workings of the world at large.

It is our wedding day.

To the future. To happiness. To love.

photography fridays #13

How fitting this is. It has not escaped my attention that today is Friday the 13th. And this is the 13th photography post.

Luckily 13 is lucky in my family, my Dad was born on Friday the 13th. Fortunately, else I would certainly not be writing this now, and definitely not be getting married tomorrow.

As my Dad would say: LORDY, it’s tomorrow!!!

This photo is from 100 Layer Cake, and was taken at a DIY wedding. What a coincidence! We are having a VERY DIY wedding, and I pull the exact face this bride is pulling when I’m being “bashful” as Nicky calls it.; ie when I’m feeling emo and don’t want to show it. I imagine I will have a lot of emo’s tomorrow.

Bring on the waterproof mascara baby...

hometown glory

I have not lived in EL full time for going on 9 years.

Once we finished school, Mom and Dad unceremoniously skopped my brother and I out of the house and straight into res in Cape Town. Thank goodness.

“Living” here for the last three weeks has been very different to the Jozi vibe, where everyone is one fender bender away from using a golf club on someone’s windscreen.

There are some things I had forgotten about my dear hometown:

Most of the wasps in Africa live here, and half of that population in my parents’ garden (to date: 4 stings and one lost bath towel when Dad forgot he was kilting it and threw his towel at one. In the FRONT YARD!)

It is seriously humid. Like Durban humid.

People are nice (see above).

People drive r e a l l y  s l o w l y...

When I don’t work, I have time to make chocolate fondants. Nicky is delighted.

My brother is really funny. He doesn’t give hugs, but rather points at my skinny arms and yells “Small female arms!!!” (this roughly translates to love you big sister)

People have full on accents. Twice we have been asked when we are returning to the UK - bearing in mind we live in Joburg – because we speak “like Pommies”. Which roughly translates as: if you don’t have an East Cape accent what the hell are you doing here out of the holiday season?

It is frizzville. Leave your straightener at home, I have already tried and it doesn’t help.

There is a lot of wildlife. And they all seem to jump/crawl/fly/stumble/hop into the house in a constant stream.

It’s charming really. Can’t wait for everyone to arrive for the Big Day!

Here is Smalldog. She epitomises the place: friendly, suffering in the heat (look at her tongue!) and an animal.

photography fridays #12

Firstly, ONE MORE WEEK!!!

OK now that is out of the way; I have noticed an alarming trend in the last few photos I have posted. All are of the bride.

Am I in danger of becoming bridezilla? Or thinking that next Saturday I will be the centre of the universe, contrary to popular and well documented scientific facts about the Sun, and want to boss the hell out of everyone?

I like to think that’s unlikely.

This photograph from Pinterest has all the markings of a bridal fairytale, complete with to die for light and softness. Lovely...
